Bobby Orr’s Cans

Welcome to my 25th post! I’ve always read my friends blogs, but never thought I would actually ever write my own. That is until my good friend Dave (ToyNerd.com, a great sight) set me up with this domain and friends encouraged me to write about my collectibles. I mainly focus on my Bobby Orr memorabilia, but I also collect comics and have written about a few in the past. I hope to feature the comics a little more regularly going forward.

Thank you to everyone who read my posts. I know I’m not the greatest writer in the world, but I really enjoy talking about my collections and sharing any information about them that I have. Keep those comments coming too! I read and respond to everyone of them.

So last week I said that in honor of my 25th post I would write about a pair of Orr collectibles that are quite possibly the most unique and obscure Orr items that you’ll ever see.  My friends who have seen my collection have been asking me when these were going to be featured. Well today is that day.

I give to you, Bobby Orr Lemonade. In regular and pink. My friends simply refer to them as “the cans”.

Pretty sweet, right?  I aquired these cans about six years ago. I never knew they even existed until shortly before I bought them. A fellow Orr collector had the regular lemonade can and sent me a picture of it. I told the owner of one of the local sports card stores that I go to about the can and told him that I was looking for it if it should ever come through his shop. He had never heard of Bobby Orr lemonade and he grew up in this area, so I figured that the odds weren’t in my favor of seeing one any time soon. Remember now, at the time I had been going to card shows for 20 years and have been searching on Ebay for about 4 years and in all that time I have never seen an Orr lemonade can other than that one time. Fast forward two months. He purchased a very large collection of cards and oddball items that took a few weeks to go through. I had known about the collection and had even seen some of the items that he had already sorted through, but it was mainly baseball and basketball stuff. About a week later he called me and said that while going through one of the boxes he came across something Orr related that I might be interested in. I raced down there and he pulls out both the regular and pink lemonade can, which I had no idea existed. To say that I was stunned and massively excited would be an understatement. I immediately purchased them both along with a special display case for them that you can see here.

So you might be asking “what’s the story behind these”? Good question. Unfortunately I don’t have any answers for you. All research has been futile and nobody I’ve spoken to about these ever remember seeing them for sale. All I do know is that on the cans they say that they were packed for M – O Inc. based out of Canton, MA., and that company doesn’t appear to exist anymore. The photo they use on each can looks like it’s from either 1972 or 1973.  If anybody has any information about these, please, please, please drop me a line and let me know. Since buying these, I have only seen these cans for sale one other time and that was on Ebay a few years ago. They sold for around $350. I know a few other Orr collectors who don’t have them and are always on the lookout.

Well there you have it. The legendary cans. Thanks again to everyone who continues to read about my Orr collection as well as my comics. There are many more of each to come!
