Welcome to 2013 and year 4 of this blog. I hope you’ll continue to enjoy seeing the Bobby Orr items in my collection.
For this year’s first post, I thought about what type of Orr collectible I have the most of. The obvious answer is his cards. Beckett Hockey, which is a monthly price guide, recently totaled the number of Orr cards produced between 1966 to the present. Final numbers are 1,152 cards totaling $100, 532. Pretty impressive. That’s not what I want to talk about this week however.
This week I want to show you some items from what is probably his second most collectible: Magazines.
I’ve said in the past that I love magazines with Orr on the cover. I have a wall of them displayed in my memorabilia room and probably another three or four boxes filled with his covers. Some of my favorites are from what was a locally produced periodical called Hockey Times magazine. Here are some of them.

I can’t make out the artists name on this, but it’s a good likeness of Orr.

Here’s a great cover featuring Orr’s goal and the Stanley Cup.
This last one is my favorite out of everyone I have.

This is actually a wrap-around cover. Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers is down on the ice making a save while Orr is there to clear the puck if necessary. I think this is a great action shot.
Hockey Times was a monthly magazine that started at the end of 1970 and ended sometime in 1973 or 1974. Each issue was roughly 20 pages long and not only featured articles about the Bruins and the NHL in general, but it also covered college, high school and even local community programs in the area.
Orr is featured on many other covers as you can guess. I’ll show you more in later posts.
That’s all for this week. One down and fifty one more to go for this year. I’ll be back again next weekend with some more Orr vintage items.
You threw us for a loop there! My only question, out of the 1,152 cards made, how many do you have?
I like the wrap around Hockey Times, very exciting shot!
You have good taste Goog. It’s funny about the cards. A majority of them were made within the last 15 years or so and he retired in 1979. I probably have somewhere around 500. My main concern is having all his main cards from his playing days, which I do.
Does that include the legendary Bazooka card?
