Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who’s the Greatest Hockey Player of All?

Pretty easy to guess what I’m going to show you this week. These two items come from the same person that I bought last weeks mug from. They’re also two items that I’ve wanted and been looking for for a long time.

Orr’s been a spokesman for many products over the years. He’s hawked hockey equipment, cookies and shaving products just to name a few. By far, two of the best pieces of advertising memorabilia that feature him are the following two items.

Here we have the first of two mirrors featuring Orr in street clothes hawking Canadian LTD whiskey. That’s a photo of Orr that is taped to the back of the mirror.

This second mirror is my favorite of the two.

“Two distinguished Canadians”. So true. Look at the jacket and turtleneck. The man oozes class. It’s a little tough to see, but he’s also wearing his 1970 Stanley Cup Champion ring.

Any hockey fan who has a bar in their “man cave” really needs to have these hanging up behind it. Just perfect.

I know other Orr collectors who have these, but I’ve hardly ever seen then offered on Ebay or at shows. I think I remember the first one selling on Ebay a few years back for over $200. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to grab these.

I do have one question to put to my readers: Have you tried the whiskey and is it any good?

Hope you enjoyed this weeks Orr items. As always, more will be coming your way next weekend. See you then.

Hi There, You seem to know and appreciate things that are Bobby Orr. I was just going through some old stuff of mine and I came across an hand autographed postcard from Mr Orr on behalf of the “Mystery Sleuth” for the Read-a-thon campain that he was an (I guess) ambassador for. I got this when I was in elementary school in the 70’s or possibly in 1980 if I am reading the postmark correct. The front of the postcard is him in his #4 Chicago Blackhawks jersey which is signed and then the back reads “Dear Mystery Sleuth: I’m Bobby Orr and I want to thank you for joining the MS read-a-thon team. It doesn’t matter weather you are playing hockey or solving a mystery, you’ll soon find out that the best score is made by the team which works together. I hope all you kids will read as many books as you can by March 2 and then start to collect your pledges. Just because the read-a-thon ends March 2nd, however, don’t stop reading. Keep it up – you’ll be on a winning team. Your friend, (signed again-appears to be in pen) Bobby Orr.” Would you possibly know if this has any value to it, I did a little research and they seem to be rare ?? Let me know what you think please, you can e-mail me back. Thanks, ROBIN.

the “read-a-thon” cards was from his days in Chicago…seen them from 25-50. If its his hand auto…add another 25. There were 2 versions…b&w and color.
    Congrats on the mirrors.

  6. Gary says:

Thanks Iceman. I figured that you’d know about the cards.

Hey man. Got an odd Bobby Orr Canadian LTD promo thought you may know something about. It is a short hockey stick with Bobby Orr facsimile auto and Canadian LTD Whiskey. Looks to be part of Bobby’s advertising campaign with Canadian LTD. Have you ever seen one? I can’t find one online. Thanks!

  8. Gary says:

Hey Zack thanks for reading. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I have that same stick. You see them on Ebay from time to time. They usually sell for between $25 – $50.

  9. talkin hockey says:

Does anyone know if there are any available Canadian Wiskey Bobby Orr mirrirs still around for purchase?

  10. Gary says:

Unfortunately I don’t see them too often. The last time I saw one was on Ebay a month or two ago.

  11. Bruce says:

I have the second mirror and it is in excellent condition. Thinking of putting it up for auction on ebay and starting at 150.00

  12. Gary says:

Hi Bruce. That’s a good starting price for the mirror.

  13. Wayne Frazer says:

Just a note – I have also come across one of the Read-A-Thon postcards. However, both sigs (front and back) are facsimile autographs on mine.

I have a mystery sleuth card as well.
Signed by Bobby Orr….found in my parents estate contents.
Also two cards with Bobby Orr in a white Chicago BLackhawks uniform
With original signatures – the back of these cards have stats on them.
Wondering what they would be worth?
