Every once in awhile I’ll come across an Orr item on Ebay that I immediately know is pretty rare. Usually that means two things: I’m going to bid on it if I already don’t have it and I’m going to end up spending a good amount of money on it.
Lately there have been more than a few Orr collectibles that have come up that you don’t see very often. One such item was listed a few months ago that according to my friend and Orr collector Danny, had only been the second one that he’s ever seen. Needless to say, it went to the top of my want list. Thankfully, I ended up winning it.
Here it is.
Here we have a pretty rare Orr Oshawa Junior card from 1964-1965. It’s roughly the size of a postcard, measuring 4 1/4 x 6 1/4. It has a blank back and was promoted by CKLB which was an Oshawa radio station and sponsored by Crown Life which was an insurance company.
These cards came out for the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons. Orr’s teammates were also featured on these cards and some of them can be found on Ebay at the moment. There are differences between the two years. The biggest being that on the 1965-66 card, the players name and Oshawa are spaced differently. Also, the ‘65-’66 card lists the players position.
As I alluded to earlier in the post, I knew I would have to spend a good deal of money to win this. Turns out I was right. If you ever see one of these, expect to spend a couple hundred dollars at a minimum.
Special thanks to Danny who provided me with the information on these cards.
Thanks for reading this week. Check back in again next week for some more Bobby Orr collectibles.
